Sport for Social Change

Module progress: 0/6 completed

Mentor on the Move (MOTM) is an EU-funded international project that promotes inclusion, health, and wellbeing among women with a migration background through sport-based mentoring. Implemented by partners from Finland, Romania, the United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, and Belgium, the project focuses on creating inclusive and culturally sensitive sporting opportunities that empower migrant women—especially those in vulnerable situations—to participate, connect, and thrive.

This module introduces the concept of Sport for Social Change (SSC)—the idea that sport can be a powerful driver of inclusion, empowerment, and equality. It combines theoretical insight with practical tools and exercises to help you understand how sport can intentionally promote social impact, with a particular focus on the inclusion of migrant women.

By the end of this module, you will gain both conceptual understanding and practical strategies to design, implement, and evaluate inclusive sport-based initiatives that foster community participation and belonging.

Learning Outcomes
  • Define Sport for Social Change (SSC) and distinguish it from recreational or competitive sport.
  • Identify and explain the five key mechanisms through which sport fosters social inclusion.
  • Analyse how SSC can address the specific needs and challenges faced by migrant women.
  • Apply practical strategies that clubs and organisations can use to make sport more inclusive for migrant women.
