Mentor on the Move

Empowering Women of Migrant Background and Vulnerable Groups Through Sports-Based Mentoring

Mentor on the Move (MOTM) is an Erasmus+ Sport project dedicated to promoting social inclusion, empowerment, and well-being for women of migrant background and other vulnerable groups across Europe. While sports have proven benefits for health, confidence, and community building, many women of migrant background face barriers that limit their participation, such as lack of information, access to facilities, cultural expectations, and language challenges.

MOTM addresses these challenges by developing an innovative, culturally sensitive sports mentoring model that guides and supports women to engage in physical activity, build social connections, and strengthen their personal and professional skills. The project emphasizes the voices and agency of the women themselves, ensuring they are active participants rather than passive recipients of support.

Together with seven partner organizations from Finland, the United Kingdom, Romania, Belgium, Spain, and Greece, MOTM is building a sport-based mentoring framework that:

  • Encourages personal development and autonomy through mentoring programs for women of migrant background

  • Promotes inclusive communities where all women feel welcome in sports

  • Supports policy and practice for social inclusion across Europe

  • Fosters collaboration between sports organizations, social service providers, and local stakeholders
