A wonderful museum day at WeeGee: Art, history and time together

30.10.2026

On Friday, October 23, together with the participants of our Walking to Museums project, we enjoyed a wonderful cultural excursion to the WeeGee Museum Centre in Tapiola, Espoo, where we visited EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art and KAMU – Espoo City Museum.

We met at Tapiola Metro Station and walked together to WeeGee, enjoying the opportunity to get some fresh air, chat and spend time together before exploring the museums. The walk was a lovely way to start our visit and brought a little physical activity into our cultural afternoon.

WeeGee is a fascinating place where art, design and local history come together. The building used to be a printing house, but today it is home to several museums and exhibitions. Even before entering, we discovered some interesting sights around the museum centre, including outdoor sculptures and the nearby Futuro House, a futuristic building that looks almost like a UFO!

Inside EMMA, we explored a variety of exhibitions and artworks, from colourful and abstract pieces to beautiful glass and ceramic objects. We also discovered works by Finnish artists and designers Rut Bryk and Tapio Wirkkala, as well as exhibitions exploring identity, belonging, colours and patterns. There was something to catch everyone's attention and plenty of opportunities to look closer, share impressions and see things from different perspectives.

Our visit also included KAMU, the Espoo City Museum, where we explored Feel the Noise, an exhibition about rock music and youth culture in Espoo. It was an interesting opportunity to think about how young people lived, dressed and listened to music in the past, and what has changed – or stayed the same – over the years.

To make the museum experience even more engaging, we handed out information sheets about the current exhibitions and a small reflection activity. The task encouraged participants to think about the artworks, notice what surprised them and consider which pieces they liked most.

After all, visiting a museum is not only about seeing something new; it is also about discovering our own thoughts, feelings and points of view.

And there was another lovely surprise waiting for us! To celebrate EMMA's anniversary the week before our visit, a photo booth had been installed near the museum entrance. Of course, we couldn't miss the opportunity to take some fun group pictures together! 📸 These lovely photos will help us remember our museum day, the shared experience and the happy moments we enjoyed as a group.

The afternoon was filled with interesting discoveries, laughter, conversations and positive emotions. For our Walking to Museums project, the visit was a wonderful combination of light physical activity, cultural enrichment and social connection.

Experiences like these help bring people together, encourage curiosity and create opportunities to discover new places in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. You don't need to be an art expert to enjoy a museum -sometimes all you need is an open mind and good company.

A warm thank you to everyone who joined us and made this excursion so special! We are already looking forward to our next walk and museum adventure together 💚
