On Tuesday, May 12, together with the participants of our Ikänaiset Liikkeelle group (our project focused on physical activity and the integration of older women) we went on a wonderful excursion to Suomenlinna!
Suomenlinna is a unique sea fortress from the 18th century, located on several islands just outside the center of Helsinki. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a popular open-air museum, and at the same time a lively residential area where around 900 people live.
Some of our participants had visited Suomenlinna before, while for others it was their very first time discovering this beautiful place. But one thing was clear; nobody remained indifferent to its special atmosphere.
Suomenlinna is truly a unique combination of a historic sea fortress and a cosy island town, with breath-taking views of the sea, old stone architecture and picturesque walking paths among the rocks and nature.
The weather was a little cool and cloudy, but luckily there was no rain, which allowed us to fully enjoy our walk and time together outdoors. During the trip we also had a nice and filling snack break, where we shared our impressions, talked, laughed and simply enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere around us.
For the participants of the Ikänaiset Liikkeelle group, this visit to Suomenlinna became a wonderful combination of healthy physical activity in the fresh sea air, cultural enrichment, and meaningful social connection.

Experiences like this are very important because they help create a sense of belonging, encourage communication and bring people together in a warm and natural way!
It was truly a lovely day filled with movement, conversations, beautiful views, and positive emotions, and we are already looking forward to our next adventures together!
