Mentor on the Move: more info about mentors

23.2.2023

Our health-based mentoring activity, called Mentor on the Move, aims to support the integration of women and prevent their marginalization in the society by integrating physical exercise into everyday life and building their networks.

Who can be a mentor?

A mentor is a woman who is either a Finn or a woman who has lived in Finland for a considerable time.

Mentors are expected to provide information about the Finnish society, culture and work life in general. Also, knowledge about the Finnish sports culture is a plus, but not compulsory to function as a mentor.

What is a "good mentor"?

The mentor must be interested of directing, she has the vision and judgement ability, having been involved in many. A mentor is not a sharer of information, but above all, a support person who activates her mentee.

The mentor is someone who wants to share their thoughts, views, skills and experiences in join meetings and in discussions. If necessary, one must be constructively critical.

The mentor must be convinced that that being a mentor is also valuable and useful to the mentor herself but the mentoring relationship is mutual: it is not based on the generosity of one party.

If you are interested on becoming a mentor, you can apply here.
